BSF kills four at Umathel
Imphal, August 17 : Four suspected insurgents were killed by the BSF personnel at Umathel area under Waikhong police station in Thoubal district. The incident occurred at around 12.30 am of August 17. According to the official reports, personnel of 2 BSF stationed at Loktak Project were patrolling after getting information that some insurgents were loitering in the area. When the BSF personnel approached the area, the insurgents fired upon them. BSF also returned the fire. In the ensuing encounter, four insurgents were killed. Two magazines of AK47 rifles with 23 live rounds and four sacks of country liquor were recovered from the site. Country Liquors were believed to be confiscated by the insurgents from the villagers. According to official sources, the four insurgents were the members of the UNLF and RPF/PLA.

Memorandum submitted to Governor
Imphal, August 17 : Representatives of six local clubs submitted memorandum to the Governor of Manipur urging him to take necessary steps for safe release of two drivers. The drivers were abducted by the unidentified persons at Dimapur. The local clubs in the Bamon Leikai area organized a procession of about two thousand peoples today and marched towards the Raj Bhavan. The security personnel stopped the procession at Nupi Lal Complex and allowed some representatives to submit the memorandum.

More than 400 vehicles stranded
Imphal, August 18 : More than 400 vehicles carrying foods and provisions remained stranded at Kharkhati in Assam due to economic blockade called by Naga NGOs. Of the total vehicles, oil tankers constitute about 170, LPG carriers 70 and remaining are carrying other essential items. Meanwhile 151 vehicles stranded at Khujuma in Nagaland reached Imphal late last night under tight security. Many vehicles sustained damage due to stoning in the Senapati area.

MSF calls off counter blockade
Imphal, August 18 : The proposed counter economic blockade called by Manipuri Students Federation has been called off. It was informed in a release issued by president of the student’s body. The decision was taken upon the appeal of the All Manipur United Clubs’ Organization and other women’s organizations.

Dress Code of KYKL (K)
Imphal, August 18 : The Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (Kangjamba) reaffirmed its dress code for the Meitei women. The outfit banned the use of pants, salwars and saris by the Meitei women. The outfit also threatened that capital punishment would be given to anyone who defied the code. The outfit also warned KYKL (Toijamba) not to interfere in the matter.
