New political forum for
Nagas
Imphal, August 31 : Naga political leaders at a meeting
have decided to launch a Naga Political Forum, according to a
news report. The meeting held yesterday at Senapati was
participated by important Naga leaders like RK Theko, Soso Lorho,
Benjamin Bani and Ng. Luikang. The new forum would exert
political pressure on the government for a resolution of the
Naga problem and to expedite the ongoing GOI-NSCN peace talks.

NSCN (IM) denies
hands in killing
Imphal, August 31 : The National Socialist Council of
Nagaland (IM) has refuted the charge leveled against it by the
Naga Hoho and the United Naga Council of killing Thangkhogin
Thiek and harassing of several residents of Changoubung village
on August 29. According to a press release, the organization
said that killing of innocent civilians was against the
principle of the NSCN. The incident might have been the
handiwork of Indian intelligence agencies and some Meitei social
organizations, charged the organizations. The NSCN expressed
surprised how the Naga Hoho and the UNC became the prey of
Indian agencies.

Ultimatum
of UCM is a threat to Naga : NYF
Imphal, August 31 : The Naga Youth Front said the recent
ultimatum issued by the United Committee, Manipur to the
government on the blockade was an indirect threat to the Naga
people, according to a press release. The decision to suspend
the economic blockade was taken in view of the appeals made by
the Naga Hoho and church organisatins. The NYF is not cowed
down, said the release. Reiterating the demand that the current
ceasefire should cover all the Naga areas, the NYF also warned
that it will intensify its agitation if the GOI fails to fulfil
the demands of the Naga people.

Convention organized to discuss the fallout of ceasefire issue
Imphal, August 31 : The Citizen Convention is going to
organize a people’s convention on September 4 to discuss the
fallout of the GOI-NSCN (IM) ceasefire issue. It was announced
in a press conference by the president of the organizing
committee of the convention, Y. Mohindro. The newly constituted
convention was said to be constituted by intellectuals and
independent of any political parties. The convention would be
participated by the Left Front MPs Somnath Chatterjee, Bimal
Basu and Goutam Dev.

Many condemn killing
of student
Imphal,
August 31 : The Manipuri Students Federation condemned the
killing of Thangkhogin and resolved that the people should be
cautious against such sadist forces who try to force them to
bloody ethnic war. The federation also urged the concerned
outfit not to repeat such act of targeting innocent civilians.
