NSCN (IM) indulging in cultural terrorism : Babloo
Imphal, August 6 : Current activity of the NSCN (IM) is an act of cultural terrorism, said human rights activist, Babloo Loitongbam. Babloo was speaking in a function organized by the South East Manipur Hill and Valley Organization at Wangoo. The function was participated by members of Kuki, Kom, Hmar, Nepali, Bengali, Meitei and Pangal communities.

MLAs lobby against Assembly dissolution
Imphal, August 6 : A team of MLAs of Manipur started lobby in the Central leaders to revoke the decision of assembly dissolution, said a report. Sources among the MLAs who reached Imphal said a positive response was expected from the Union Home Minister L.K. Advani to their plea.

Officials called up by NSCN (IM)
Imphal, August 6 : District officials of the Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel and Senapati were called up by the NSCN (IM) to discuss the current scenario in the wake of the withdrawal of ceasefire extension, said a reliable source. The officials have met the NSCN (IM) leaders at Senapati district headquarters.

KRA denial
Imphal, August 6 : The Kuki Revolutionary Army denied the report that United Kuki Liberation Front (Chandel) and Kuki Revolutionary Army (Senapati district) have decamped with weapons from NSCN (IM), according to a press release issued by Anthony Kuki, Publicity Secretary, KRA.

One PLA killed in encounter
Imphal, August 5 : One PLA activist was killed in an encounter with the BSF personnel at Moirang Lamkhai Khoiru Leirak, in Bishnupur district at around 10 pm of August 4. BSF were conducting routine patrolling in the area when the underground activists using sophisticated weapons ambushed them. BSF retaliated the fire and exchange of fire took place for about 15 minutes. In the ensuing fight, one of the militants was killed. The deceased was identified as Konthoujam Manoj alias Leibakmacha son of Kwaklei of Iroishemba Lourembam Leikai. He was a member of banned People’s Liberation Army. An M22 rifle with two magazines containing 57 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the dead body.

Two civilians killed at Kumbi encounter
Imphal, August 5 : Two civilians were killed and one BSF personnel got wounded in an encounter between underground activists and BSF at Kumbi at 1 pm today. The incident occurred when the BSF were ambushed by the underground activists. BSF retaliated the fire. A heavy exchange of fire took place in the area. Two civilians were killed while one personnel of BSF got wounded in the firing.

ULFA denies report of joining hands
Imphal, August 5 : The United Liberation Front of Asom denies the news item "NE Militants Join Hands" published in some newspapers. According to a press release issued by Ms. Rubi Bhuyan, member, Central Publicity Department, ULFA, the organization said the news item published was absolutely false and misleading. The ULFA took the news item to be a deliberate attempt to create confusion among the fraternal revolutionary organizations of the region. Specifically, dragging the name the chairman of the ULFA into this misleading report only pointed the finger to Indian intelligence agencies for their own game, said the release. The ULFA urged the concerned persons not to report such baseless news item at the behest of Indian intelligence agencies.

General Strike ended peacefully
Imphal, August 5 : General strike called by the United Committee Manipur which began from 5 am today ended peacefully. No untoward incidents have occurred during the general strike. The strike was called to demand unconditional release of the students and activists arrested during the anti-ceasefire agitation. However, the essential services are exempted from the general strike, as per the press release of the UCM.
