appeal for transfers
Imphal, September 2 : The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, (Tangkhul
Students Union), Ukhrul and the Zeliangrong Students Union,
Tamenglong district, have appealed to the Governor, Ved Marwah
to allow students from hill areas to be transferred from their
respective institutions as per their choice.
The ZSU charged that many students have
been victimized in the prevailing situation in Manipur hampering
the academic atmosphere. Many students have been left stranded
in Tamenglong. The Union urged the concerned authority to
intervene in the admission procedure in the interest of the
victimized students. The union also asked for special permission
for transfer of students from one institution to another, i.e.
flexible inter-college/inter-school transfers.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Students Union,
maintained that as per their records, 5273 displaced students
have left their respective educational institutions in the
valley during the anti-ceasefire agitation. The union appealed
to the authority to give permission for admission in the
educational institutions in their respective districts and
elsewhere. The Union urged that the displaced students should be
exempted from paying their transfer fees. The union also stated
that students who have opted for Manipuri as MIL will not be
able to continue due to non-availability of Manipuri language
teachers and requested for alternative change of subject.
