One civilian tortured to death by BSF
Imphal, September 3 : A civilian mason who was arrested by BSF from the Thanga Salam Leikai was tortured to death and handed over to the Moirang police station. The victim Wahengbam Brojen of Torbung was staying at Thanga Salam for construction of a building. He was arrested by the BSF personnel from the Thanga Salam area along with 17 others during a combing operation. He was beaten to death by the BSF in their camp. His dead body was handed over to the Moirang police station yesterday morning along with other 16 persons. One Haobijam Ranjit Singh of Thanga Karang was detained by the BSF on charges of having links with the banned PLA.

KNF (MC) lambasts NSCN (IM) statement
Imphal, September 3 : The Kuki National Front (MC) lambasts the NSCN (IM)’s denial of having killed Thangkhogin Thick and assault of several residents of Changoubung village. According to a press release issued by Secretary, information and broadcasting of the front, the charges leveled against the NSCN(IM) by the Naga Hoho and the UNC were based on facts witnessed by the surviving residents.

AMUCO spent Rs. 14 lakhs
Imphal, September 3 : The All Manipur United Clubs Organisation, AMUCO spent a total of Rs. 14 lakhs during the anti-ceasefire agitation, according to a press release issued by the organization. The statement of expenditure covered the period between June 20 to August 31. Meanwhile, the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) another constituent of the United Committee, Manipur spent only Rs. 2,10,595 during the anti-ceasefire agitation.

UCM asks AMUCO to reconsider decision of resignation
Imphal, September 3 : The United Committee, Manipur have appealed to the All Manipur United Clubs Organization to reconsider its decision to resign from the UCM in the interest of the people. In a press conference held at the AMSU HQ yesterday, UCM convenors Sapamcha Jadumani and Kh. Ratan described the resignation of the AMUCO from the UCM as very unfortunate. The UCM was formed with a view to safeguard the territorial integrity as well as unity to the people of Manipur and to counter all the quarters who pose a threat to it. Since nothing more than elimination of the words “without territorial limit” from the Bangkok agreement was achieved and as there are many demands of the people still left to be fulfilled, the people wish the UCM to continue to exist, said the convenors. The convenors also said that process has been initiated to set apart the burial place at Kekrupat for building a memorial complex for the martyrs of territorial integrity movement.

Assam Rifles shot dead one rationing agent
Imphal, September 2 : Personnel of 8 Bn Assam Rifles shot dead one rationing agent inside the Manipur University Campus in Canchipur at 12.05 AM last night. The deceased Athokpam Purnima Singh (32) of Singjamei Naorem Leikai was a former member of the banned Peoples Liberation Army. He was arrested by the Assam Rifles personnel from his residence last night. Later on, he was shot dead near the recreation hall of the Manipur University.

According to the police report, he was killed in an encounter between Assam Rifles and insurgents. One 9mm pistol with 3 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the site, said the report.
