Mass rally against custodial death
Imphal, September 4 : A mass rally was organized from Bishnupur to Moirang yesterday in protest against the death of a civilian mason in the custody of the BSF. The victim Wahengbam Brojen was arrested by BSF and beaten to death in their custody. Thousands of women from Thanga Salam and Torbung have prticipated in the rally. The rallyists submitted a memorandum to the DC, Bishnupur demanding an enquiry. Meanwhile the family members refused to cremate the dead body of Brojen. The dead body still remains at Moirang police station as the family and the villagers refused to accept it until positive action is taken by the authorities.

More organizations to support UCM
Imphal, September 4 : Even though AMUCO, one of the constituent member of the UCM resigned from the apex body, many voluntary organizations have extended their support to the UCM. The Joint Action Committee for Integrity and Unity, Konthoujam have termed the resignation of the AMUCO as unfortunate. The Committee against Ceasefire Extension, Thangmeiband appealed to all the district level organizations to affiliate to the UCM to strengthen the peoples unity. The Ngamkhei Kanba Lup, Heibongpokpi, Kangchup Road have said in a press release that the people of Manipur are keeping faith in the leadership of UCM.

Memorandum submitted to Governor against execution
Imphal, September 3 : A memorandum was submitted today to the Governor of Manipur, Ved Marwah by newly formed JAC Against the Killing of A. Purnima. In the memorandum the JAC demands punishment to the personnel of 8 Assam Rifles who were involved in the killing. The memorandum also demands removal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 from Manipur. A. Purnima Singh, a rationing agent was killed by the personnel of the 8 Bn Assam Rifles after arresting him from his house. Security personnel also harassed his family members when they demanded arrest memo.

Homage paid to Martyrs
Imphal, September 3 : Peoples of the Thoubal district paid homage to the martyrs at the Khongjom River today. The function was organized jointly by the Khongjom War Memorial Trust and Action Committee Against Cease Fire Extension in Manipur. As a part of the function, a badge with enscription “Sacrifice Save Manipur” was released. It can be mentioned that Khongjom River is the site of the historic Khongjom battle during Anglo-Manipuri War 1891.
