Shootout between Mahar Regiment and Manipur Rifles
Imphal, September 4 : There was a shoot out between personnel of 7 Bn Mahar Regiment and 8 Bn Manipur Rifles at Saivong Lamkhai under Tengnoupal Police Station in Chandel District, according to a reliable source.

Personnel of Mahar Regiment were conducting combing operation in the area. They have arrested one militant suspected to be a member of the United Kuki Liberation Front and one AK47 rifle. They fired some blank shots in the air to arrest the remaining members of the UKLF. At that instance, the personnel of 8 Manipur Rifles stationed at the hilltop fired back to the army personnel taking the later to be underground activists.

Rest of the underground militants escaped while Mahar Regiment and Manipur Rifles were firing to each other.

Dissolution of Manipur assembly accepted Imphal, September 4: Union Cabinet today accepted the recommendation of Manipur Governor Ved Marwah for dissolution of the State Assembly. Law Minister Arun Jaitely said, "The Cabinet decided to recommend to the President under Article 174 (2B) of the Constitution for the dissolution of the House,".

He said Article 174 (2B) gives the Governor certain powers and clarified that the dissolution was not being recommended under Article 356.

Manipur was placed under President's Rule on June 2 and the Assembly kept under suspended animation after serious differences surfaced among the leaders of the coalition partners.

 
President's Rule in the state was approved by Parliament during its just-concluded Monsoon Session.

One KNF(MC) killed in encounter
Imphal, September 4 : One activist of the Kuki National Front (Military Council) was killed in an encounter with Assam Rifles personnel at Awang Keithelmanbi under Kangpokpi Police Station, at 1 pm today, according to a reliable source. Details are waiting.

Peopleís Convention at Jiribam to discuss NH 53
Imphal, September 4 : Peopleís convention at Jiribam is expected to discuss the security in national highway 53. The convention will be held on September 5 at Jiri Town Hall, Jiribam under the aegis of the All Manipur Studentís Union, Jiri branch.

The convention will be participated by the members of different communities residing in the Jiribam Sub-Division of the Imphal East District. The convention will be graced by the Convenors of the United Committee, Manipur and leaders of the AMSU as guests.
