Bandh
in Imphal Moreh Road
Imphal,
August 20 : A 12 hour bandh was being called on Imphal-Moreh
road today in protest against the killing of four civilians by
the BSF at Umathel on August 16. The bandh was called jointly by
the Pallel Peacekeeping Committee, AMSU Pallel Branch, AIROSCO
and various meira paibis of the Pallel area.

Tension
in Kakching
Imphal,
August 20 : The villagers in Kakching area under Thoubal
district are under tension following threat by suspected NSCN
(IM) members. The NSCN (IM) put pressure on the local farmers to
pay annual land rent of Rs. 1000. Several farmers mostly growing
sugarcane and vegetables were forcibly taken by the NSCN (IM)
and detained for over three hours for their failure to pay
annual rent. They were released after forcing them to sign on a
paper promising to make the payment within a short period of
time.
