BSF busted UG camp
at Churachandpur
Imphal, September 12 : The
Border Security Force busted a transit camp of the proscribed
underground organisation United National Liberation Front (UNLF)
at Tuikham Nallah in the Lhenthang Hill range of the southern
Manipur District of Churachandpur in the wee hours of today
morning.
According to BSF sources, an encounter took place for about
15 minutes when BSF raided the transit camp, in which three
underground cadres are believed to have been seriously injured.
The BSF party recovered two Chinese made carbines, 176
assorted live ammunition, one wireless set, a good quantity of
rice, medicines, a few Burmese currency notes and two haversacks
from the place of encounter.

Police
asked to locate missing student
Imphal September 11: The Manipur Human
Rights Commission today asked the Director General of Manipur
Police to locate the whereabouts of a 15 year old student Rakesh
Sharma and a rickshaw puller Sukham Ranjit within 24 hours.
According to a petition filed by the father of the missing
student, he was arrested by some Assam Rifles personnel last
night at around 9 pm without issuing an arrest memo and without
disclosing their unit from the former's residence. Rakesh Sharma
is a student of Class IX studying at Saint Mary's school.
The rickshaw puller was also arrested by some Assam Rifles
personnel from his residence at Naoremthong Khullen last night
without issuing an arrest memo.

Kerosine quota
Imphal September 11: The Manipur State
Human Rights Commission today asked the Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) to investigate the case of missing kerosine
quota for the period January 2001 to May 2001 worth lakhs of
rupees.
Acting on a complaint filed by sub-dealers of the Imphal East
and West the Commission said, 'Since the matter involves a
Central Agency, interstate movement of essential commodities
worth lakhs of rupees affecting lakhs of people, the matter
calls for immediate remedial measures and thorough investigation
by an independent investigating agency.'
At least three complaint cases were filed on behalf of 190
kerosine sub-dealers stating that they have not been recieving
their kerosine quota from January 2001 to May 2001 totalling
about 3330 metric tonnes.
The Commssion also took cognizance of the petition that
although the monthly quota was not made available to them,
kerosine was available in the market in abundant quantity in the
black market at prices ranging from Rs 25 to 30 per litre.

UCM organizes 4th
leaders’ meet
Imphal, September 12 : As a part of the
ongoing campaign for the safeguarding of Manipur’s identity and
promotion of communal peace and harmony, the UCM organized a
fourth leaders’ meet today at Thoubal in association with the
Action Committee Against Ceasefire Extension in Manipur, ACACEM,
Thoubal. The convenors of UCM Sapamcha Jadumani and Khomdram
Ratan along with L. Jadumani, W. Inao, RK Ranendrajit and other
dignitaries graced the meet.

Fake NSCN (IM) men held
Imphal, September 12 : Three persons, who were
impersonating as the NSCN (IM) cadres were caught and punished
by the activists of the NSCN(IM) on September 8 at Karong under
Senapati district. The three imposters are identified as H.
Roland of Napal village, Thohrii, of Senapati town and L.
Chishow of Kalinamai. They collected some money from some
persons who were playing cards opposite the Karong power house
on September 8. The three imposters also reportedly opened fire
with a 9 mm pistol.
