VC
responsible for erosion of University autonomy : MUTA
Imphal,
August 20 : The Manipur University Teachers Association was
holding the Vice Chancellor responsible for the erosion of
University autonomy, according to a press release issued by S.
Dorendrajit, General Secretary of the Association yesterday. The
association charged VC as responsible for inefficient and
ineffective administration, unscrupulous finance section,
mismanaged exam branch, lack of maintenance and growth of the
university library, violation of the provisions of the MOU
signed between MUTA and the University on Nov. 13, 2000. The
association also took strong exception to the university
authorities reports in the media trying to project the teachers'
agitation as one focused on the issue of superannuation of the
university teachers. The association wished to clarify that the
authorities' version is quite misleading and malafide and feels
that the administration is deliberately prevaricating to
hoodwink the public who is the 'ultimate owner' of the state's
only premier institution of higher learning. MUTA will carry on
its movement to save the university till a proper resolution is
achieved.
Meanwhile,
the ongoing strike launched by MUTA demanding the
resignation/removal of the Manipur University VC entered the 7th
day on August 20, 2001.
